A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been inked between University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Department of Fisheries (DoF), Government of Punjab, to pursue a programme of research and technical collaboration in the field of fisheries & aquaculture besides lunching one-year diploma course.
The MoU was signed by UVAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz and Department of Fisheries & wildlife additional secretary Syed Rizwan Mehboob during a signing ceremony on Tuesday. Director General Fisheries, Dr Muhammad Ayub, Director Fisheries (Extension) Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Director Fisheries (Aquaculture) Chaudhry Muhammad Qasim, Director Fisheries (Research & Training) Dr Skindar Hayat Jahangir, UVAS Registrar Dr Kamran Ashraf, Additional charge Dean Faculty of Fisheries & Wildlife Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dean Faculty of Bio-Sciences Professor Dr Ijaz Ahmad Dean, Faculty of veterinary Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad, Director Institute of Bio-chemistry & Bio-technology, Professor Dr Masroor Elahi Baber, Director department of economics and business management Syed Sadir Zaidi attended the occasion.
Director General Fisheries Dr Muhammad Ayub while giving details in this regard told that Department of Fisheries & UVAS, would jointly initiate one year diploma course and Department of Fisheries would send students or department employees for seeking higher education leading M.Phill & Ph.D to UVAS. He added that Department of Fisheries will only provide internship facilities to those students who will be in their last semester of 4 years BS (Hons) programmes.
The infrastructure facilities will be open to them where they can get practical training in processes, procedures and technologies currently practised in the Department of Fisheries to strengthen their professional skills. He told that two seats would annually be reserved for employees of Department of Fisheries for enrolment in BS (Hons), M.Phill and Ph.D and admission will be based on the nominations made by the Fisheries department.
He told that both parties shell endeavour to meet all formalities in connection with the preparation, negotiation and implementation of activities with in the framework of this memorandum and shall maintain close contact. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz said that MoU between DoF and UVAS department of Fisheries would encourage on-going collaboration in the selected scientific fields as well as exchange of professionals between both institutions.
