Pakistan Muttahida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) has announced to convene a conference of growers from across the country on August 10, 2010 to devise a joint strategy for pressing the government to take effective steps for stopping Indian water aggression.
This was stated by the PMKM Chief Ayub Khan Mayo in a statement issued here Tuesday. He said PMKM Chief would strive to invite all the organisations representing growers and other segments of the society working against Indian water aggression. He said that farmers from all the provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir would be participating in this conference.
He also called for including water issues in the Indo-Pak talks scheduled for July 15, 2010 at foreign ministers' level. He said that the government should press India to implement the Indus Basic Water Treaty in letter and spirit. Mayo said Indian designs of constructing numerous water reservoirs and dams on Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh rivers would turn Pakistan's land barren, leading the country to food crisis.
