A microbiologist and world authority on snake venom and its treatment Professor Kavi Ratanabanangkoon from Mahidol University Thailand called on Vice Chancellor Sindh University Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal here on Wednesday.
The Vice Chancellor while welcoming the scholar briefed him about the Sindh University's academic and research programmes and academic reforms introduced by him for quality of higher education. He informed that University of Sindh is going to introduce real semester system to compete world universities. He also briefed the guest about key institutes and departments and said that more than 22000 students including a number of foreigner students are enrolled in Sindh University.
He said that University of Sindh is second oldest University of country, which cater the needs of higher education of youth of all over country. He said that even this University is located in rural based but a number of girls' students has been getting education here. He also briefed the scholar about research activities.
The Vice Chancellor further informed that the University had been assisting anti-snake venon/anti rabies serology, laboratory project of health department Government of Sindh through departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
He said that core idea is to help and assist the project in finding solutions for its technical problems. The visiting scholar on this occasion highlighted his research work on snake venom and treatment done by the department of Microbiology of Mahidol University under his supervision. He has shown keen interest for MOU between the Mahidol University and University of Sindh for extending research activities among scholars of both universities. The Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Dr Muhammad Tahir Rajput, the consultant on higher Education Dr Muhammad Raees, Registrar Muhammad Hussain Shaikh, Director of the Institute of Biochemistry Allah Bux Ghanghro and others were present in the meeting.
