World Health Organisation (WHO) handed over medical equipment worth 1.5 million dollars to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department here at a simple ceremony. The equipment will be installed in 11 District Headquarters Hospitals of the IDPs supporting districts of the province, which will strengthen the blood banks, laboratories and operation theatres of these hospitals.
The project funded by European Commission for Humanitarian Aid contained total 30344 items. Speaking on the occasion, the WHO country representative Dr Khalif Bile Muhammad said that the crisis period was over and the country will soon set on the path of progress and prosperity. He said that Pakistanis were hardworking nation and were having the courage and resources to face any challenge.
He highlighted works and co-operation of WHO in the recent calamities of earthquakes, floods and IDPs in the country and assured that in future too, this co-operation will continue. Dr Khalif said that strengthening of the 11 DHQ hospitals will play vital role in solving health problems of IDPs of this province. He pointed out that the list of medical equipment was jointly prepared by the WHO team and heads of health departments of the 11 districts.
Speaking on the occasion, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Health Dr Sohail Altaf thanked the WHO and its Pakistani team for their active support in the recent natural calamities in Pakistan especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He appreciated the technical and financial support provided by the organisation in the recent past. Both the parties signed formal agreement on the occasion.
Later, the WHO team leader handed over the equipment loaded in several trucks to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Secretary Health Dr Sohail Altaf. The districts of Malakand, Mardan and Peshawar Divisions will be major beneficiaries of this medical equipment.
