The University of Sindh has decided not to allow conversion of M.Phil to Ph.D programme but the candidates will be bound to finish M.Phil and Ph.D degree programmes separately. The university has also finalised proposal of hiring of private security at the campus. The decision in this connection was taken in 15th meeting of Vice Chancellor Executive Council held under Chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal.
The meeting was attended by Pro Vice Chancellors, Deans of the Faculties and other concerned members. He said that it is duty of every employee to devote himself for the University betterment as University is facing cut in its budget. He said that we are trying to create resources for generating funds then we can meet the challenges and provide quality of service for higher education to our youth.
He informed meeting that HEC would not provide funds for the development account. He further informed that Sindh Government has approved Rs 20 million for the purchase of land for Sindh University Campus at Dadu. He said that University has been hiring private security system as other Universities have already adopted the same for better security system.
The Vice Chancellor also said that the Deans should submit proposal about hiring of faculty members if they need. Their proposals would be considered before the completion of summer vacation. He said that after beginning of the semester classes no such proposals will be considered and every department should concentrate on teaching and academic activities fully.
The meeting discussed the report of Economic Committee and appreciated efforts made for the economy in expenses of the University. In light of the report of the committee it was decided that the gas meters would be installed at the residential quarters in Sindh University Colony, while discussing about the installation of electric meters it was decided that after three months the matter would be considered for the implementation. The Director Finance while presenting report of the financial position for the ongoing financial year informed that University with the cut on huge expenditure on different heads would save Rs 95 million.
He further informed that with the saving the University would be enable to pay increased salaries and pension to its employees. The meeting also in principally agreed to enhance registration fees for the M.Phil and Ph.D admission programme and discussed the policy for it. The meeting also decided that during academic convocation of the University gown and cap will be provided to degree recipients. The meeting reviewing allocation of foreign scholarships also formed a new scholarship Committee comprising of Deans of the Faculties headed by Vice Chancellor.
A committee was also constituted to conduct inquiry of funds spent for construction and repairing work of residence Bungalow's and residence quarters during last five years. The meeting also set up another committee headed by Advisor Engineering wing to review the on going construction work of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
A Committee headed by Director Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili was also constituted to check the availability of Computers in different departments and inspect the working and efficiency of the available computers. The meeting has further decided to avail services from LUMHS for a water line to Hostels till the University completes the on going work on underline water tank for reserving water at the boys hostels. The meeting was attended by Pro Vice Chancellors Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Deans of the Faculties Dr Anwar Ali Shah, Dr Parveen Shah, Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Dr Muhammad Tahir Rajput, Dr Parveen Munshi, Dr Abdullah Dayo, Professor Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Registrar Muhammad Hussain Shaikh, Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili and others.
