Two Christian brothers, accused of writing a blasphemous pamphlet, were shot dead in District Court Faisalabad here on Monday by some unidentified people. An unidentified youth shot dead Pastor Rashid Emmanuel, 32, and his brother Sajjad, after they had left a court in Faisalabad city, police official said. Their police escort also came under attack.
The condition of Sub-inspector was stated to be serious. Just after the incident, violence erupted in Warispura and Daud Nagar, the areas where a large number of member of Christian community live. Unruly mob attacked some houses and tried to set them on fire. During armed clashes and protest more than seven persons were injured. Police resorted to lathi charge and fired gas shells to disperse the protestors.
According to Civil Lines Police, Rashid and Sajjad were Christian brothers who were arrested a few days back on charges of committing blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The two brothers and a Sub-inspector were seriously injured in the incident and rushed to a nearby hospital where the accused were pronounced dead. DCO Faisalabad imposed 144Crpc immediately in the District. Punjab Government has suspended a DSP and a SP investigation for poor security arrangements and constituted a high-level investigation committee.
