Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Wednesday vowed to carry forward the mission of safeguarding the public and national interests, making the party more cohesive, vibrant and robust political outfit.
Both the PML-Q leaders expressed these views during their meetings with different delegations of party leaders and workers who thronged the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat here to felicitate both the leaders on the completion of one year of their election as party's president and secretary general, respectively. Both the leaders had been reelected for a three-year term in the intra-party elections held at PML House on July 20, 2009.
Talking to the party delegates, the PML leaders said that PML had strong ideological foundations. "We have no personality cult in our party. We are here to serve the party as well as the nation and we will not mar the expectations of our party workers and countrymen. We are here with a mission and during the past one year, we made utmost efforts for safeguarding the national and public interest. We used all forums, inside and outside the parliament, to preserve the benefit of the common man," they added.
The PML-Q leaders added that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Allama Mohammed Iqbal and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah were not only the role models for the Muslim leaguers, but they also had provided guidelines for the party to carry forward the mission. "Today, PML has emerged as the main opposition party. It has gained strength and has roots in all the four provinces of the country besides Gilgit-Baltistan.
Its leadership has been amongst the public whenever the people faced any test and they represented the opinion of the public with force on all issues, from Kerry Lugar Bill to Pak-India talks, budget-making process, price hike or fake degrees issue, and campaign against extremism and terrorism. It had also fully supported the independence of judiciary and free media," they added.
Answering questions, the PML leaders said PML was a national mainstream political outfit and the doors of PML were open for all leaguers even for those who had left the party on their own. We would welcome them with open arms, they added. The delegates presented sweets and flowers to the PML-Q leaders on the completion of one year of their election to the posts of President and Secretary General of the PML. They also said that the PML leadership had been amongst public on all important occasions and had also they rose above party lines on major national issues.
