Floodwater breaking out from Koh-e-Suleman has reached Indus Highway inundating another 15 villages in Rajanpur and Fazilpur as another four persons, including a seven-year old boy, lost their lives. Local management said rising level of water creates fear of breakage of Indus Highway and Dhandi flood dam as more than 20 small dams are already broken.
On Saturday, a man was killed when the roof of his house collapsed due to rains in Dera Murad Jamali. Also, a four-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother died due to water-borne diseases in Nari tehsil of Sibi. 19 more bodies were found from the flood-affected areas in Balochistan on Saturday as relief efforts started in eastern districts of the province where thousands of people are stranded, while 13 people are still missing. The death toll, from flash floods in the area, now stands at more than 70.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has started providing relief goods to the displaced people. However, local people said they did not receive any aid. Rail traffic remained suspended in the area and helicopters are being used for rescue activities. Floodwater is still accumulated in head Khanki, Qadirabad and adjoining areas despite decrease in water level in Chenab River. Torrential rains have caused severe damage in Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts, where vehicular traffic and train service are still suspended. Work is underway to repair the section of rail line that was damaged by the floods.
