Legend fast medium bowler and hero of 1979 Melbourne Test, Sarfraz Nawaz has described Pakistan's bowling combination of Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul and Danish Kaneria is best in the world and said they can easily bowl out any cricket team without conceding many runs.
He was talking to Business Recorder after Pakistan's first test win against cricket giant Australia in 15 years in England on Saturday. Pakistan levelled the two test series in a neutral country (England) at 1 - 1.
Analysing the performance of Pakistan cricket team in the second test against Australia, Sarfraz said it was not an ordinary feat of the Pakistani bowlers as they bowled out Australian team in 33.1 overs at 88, their lowest since they were bowled out for 76 by the West Indies in Perth in 1984.
He said Pakistan's win is a great victory due to team efforts, improved fielding, good captaincy, and all credit goes to the team's young players. However, Sarfraz said there is a question mark on the performance of Umer Akmal and Shoaib Malik.
Sarfraz opposed inclusion of old players like Younus, Yousuf, Misbah in the team to play test matches against England this season, as they had played their innings. "The Pakistan Cricket Board should look 5 to 6 years ahead and give chance to the young talented players, he suggested.
He said PCB should make special efforts to find new dependable young batsmen as our batting quite often collapses under pressure. "Scoring 40 to 50 runs with seven wickets in hand to win a test match should not unnerve our players "he added.
He said many times the edge gained by the bowlers is lost by the batsmen by playing irresponsible or lethargic shots. He hoped Saturday's win will revive confidence of Pakistan's cricket team as it was going to play against a very strong England team, which has already won against Australia.
Meanwhile Lahorites celebrated Pakistan's long due victory against Australia in a big way. As Umer Gul played the winning stroke, people came out in the streets, distributed sweats and congratulated each other.
However, some sports experts and analysts have stressed that Pakistan cricket team needs to be mentally strengthened, therefore, PCB should engage a qualified and reputed psycho-analysts to boost confidence of the team in their talent, professionalism and team spirit.
