Government should make its economic and trade policies in consultation with the business community and other stakeholders and they should be framed at least for five years. "We should take on board the stakeholders when we make policies regarding investments and other economy related matters," said Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan, President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) while talking to a group of Journalists on Wednesday.
"Big responsibility lies on the shoulders of commercial attaches and trade counsellors deputed in the foreign missions for enhancing exports, and if they perform their duties well, the volume of exports can be raised upto Rs 100 billion," he said and added that the government should be aware of the problems faced by the business community and steps should be taken to resolve them in consultation with businessmen.
The MCCI chief said the Information Resource Center could play an important role in imparting knowledge to the businessmen for adopting new techniques in their businesses. President MCCI Asrar Awan said that only industrialisation could pull the country out of the financial crisis. He emphasised on the need of adopting new business techniques to speed up the process of development.
"Although the business community is ready to invest in the country but for this the government should facilitate them and provide them an investment friendly atmosphere," he said. Establishment of Export Processing Zone should be done in Multan where special incentives could be given to the investors.
He also said that due to a change in the policies regarding the overseas Pakistanis, an increase in foreign remittances have been witnessed which is a good sign. For getting even better results, the government should also bring about some reforms in their policy regarding the illegal transfer of money from other countries.
