President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday accorded his assent to Islamabad High Court Bill, 2010, for establishing of a High Court for Islamabad Capital Territory. The assent was accorded during a signing ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Federal Minister for Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, Attorney General for Pakistan former Justice Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq and Secretary Law Division Muhammad Masood Chishti were also present on the occasion.
The Bill was passed by the National Assembly on May 10 and the Senate on May 13, 2010 with amendment. The Bill was again passed by the National Assembly on June 30 without any amendment, in terms of clause (2) of Article 70 of the Constitution.
