Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani flew to Peshawar on Friday to meet the Chief Minister and senior officials of the Provincial Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to express solidarity and receive first hand information about the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in different parts of the province.
After a brief stopover at Peshawar Airport, the Prime Minister boarded a helicopter and took an aerial view of the flood-affected areas to personally see the situation and assess the difficulties of the people. While undertaking the aerial view he issued instructions to the concerned organisations for urgent rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the people trapped and dislocated because of flood waters. The Federal Government, he said, would provide all possible support and assistance for the safety of the people. He appreciated the efforts being made by the various organisations particularly military helicopters engaged in the relief operations.
The Prime Minister said that this natural calamity will have to be tackled with the same spirit as demonstrated by the people and the officials of various organisations during similar situations in the past. The damages, he observed, would require hectic efforts to bring the life back to normal in the affected areas. He also asked the relevant organisations to take measures in advance to avoid spread of any possible epidemic. The people of the affected areas, he added, also need to be apprised of the safety and precautionary measures for their protection. The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister of State for Information Samsam Ali Bokhari, President ANP Afsand Yar Wali, Provincial Information Minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Chairman NDMA General Nadeem accompanied the Prime Minister during the aerial view of the flood affected areas.-PR
