The illegal go-slow policy of Palpa entered the 9th day as 13 Captains and First Officers refused to operate scheduled flights causing an estimated loss of over rupees one billion to the National Flag Carrier, PIA spokesman said here on Sunday.
PK 308 Karachi-Islamabad flight was operated by Managing Director PIA, Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon and Director Flight Operations, Captain Shuja Naqvi while 10 other flights were operated by management pilots.
The illegal go-slow and refusal of Palpa pilots to operate fights disturbed 15 flights. Five domestic and international flights had to be cancelled due to non-availability of pilots. President Palpa Captain Sohail Baloch for the third time refused to operate Karachi-Muscat-Karachi flight PK 225 giving non-professional reason that he was busy in association activities. Besides Palpa President, Captains and First Officers who refused to operate flights on Sunday included First Officer Rizwan Ahmad, Executive member Palpa, Captain Uzair Khan, Joint Secretary Palpa, Captain Hamid Gardezi also a Director in CAA, First Officer Faisal Hameed, Captain Illyas Najmi, First Officer Amaan Durrani, First Officer Fayaz, First Officer Mujeeb Ahmad, Captain Mateen Gul, Captain Jan Muhammad, Captain Mateen Bhurgari and Flight Officer Noor-Ul-Hasan.
PIA spokesman said that the management during the last two weeks has repeatedly requested Palpa for a dialogue which they refused on the pretext that the go-slow has now gained momentum and their talks with the management would break the tempo of the policy. Total of 62 flights were delayed and 11 flights were cancelled during these nine days. So far, the airline has suffered an estimated loss of over rupees one billion due to the cancellation of a dozen local and international flights. The passengers suffered badly due to these delays and cancellations, the spokesman concluded.-PR
