PML (Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has suggested that the gigantic task of relief and rehabilitation of millions of flood affected people in the country should be assigned to disaster management authority under army's supervision as the provincial governments are likely to embezzle flood relief funds.
Addressing a news conference along with other leaders of his party here on Sunday, Shujaat alleged that the present rulers had already appropriated billions of rupees of Zakat fund, therefore it is possible that they also pocket donations for flood relief efforts of the nation.
He bitterly criticised Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and Punjab chief ministers for, what he called, their utter failure to inform the people in time about coming of the devastating floods in their provinces, which have uprooted millions of people besides loss of life and property.
Highlighting the apathy and insensitivity of KP Chief Minister, Shujaat said that he went to KP along with his party provincial leaders to condole killing of KP minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain's son on Sunday.
He said when he was coming back, he saw the Charsadda - Peshawar road was submerged under floodwater where hundreds of people were marooned in their cars. Had the people been informed of the flood when it was at Toll Plaza, travellers would not have taken the risk of continuing their journey.
Shujaat said when he saw people drowning in the flood with families, he rang up KP Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti as an SOS for sending rescue teams, but the CM did not attend his SOS telephone call.
PML (Q) leader also criticised Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and said that instead of flying by helicopters over the flood affected areas making empty promises, he should give these helicopters to the administration for providing relief to the marooned people in Mianwalai, Bhakkar, Laiya, Muzaffarabad, Multan, D.G. Khan and Rajanpur and other districts of Punjab.
