Water flow at Guddu Barrage rises to 420,000 cusecs on Tuesday and the inflow of water is continuously increasing due to fast-approaching 'super flood' which is likely to strike Sindh province in the next 24 hours. Talking to Business Recorder, Saleh Ahmed Farooqui, Director General (DG), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the province has started receiving pre-flash flood effects.
The water level at Guddu Barrage raised to 120,000 cusecs during the last 24 hours and the first part of 600,000 cusec high floods may pass through the barrage on Wednesday (today), the DG added. He further said: "high to exceptionally high" or "super flood" with an intensity of 1 million cusec water would strike Guddu Barrage between August 5 and August 6.
As the water level in the barrage has reached dangerous levels, people at the Indus River's banks are moving to safe places, the DG said. He said water level record at Guddu Barrage on Monday night was 250,000 cusecs, which was raised to 300,000 cusecs on Tuesday morning. Water level at the barrage started increasing rapidly in the last 24 hours, which indicates the arrival of high flood in the next 24 hours, he added.
