Special remission has been granted to prisoners of different categories on the occasion of Independence Day August 14. This special remission from 45 to 90 days was granted to prisoners of different categories and it will also include total remission to female prisoners who are 60 years of age or above, and to the male prisoners who are 65 years of age or above and have completed at least one third of their sentence.
This remission in sentence would not be applicable to the prisoners involved in the heinous crimes like terrorism, espionage and murder. Following the advice of Prime Minister Gilani, President Zardari has directed the Interior Ministry to issue notification of remission to prisoners of different categories from 45 days to 90 days, total remission for juvenile prisoners, old male and female prisoners and one-year remission to female prisoners.

Special remission of 45 days was granted to all other convicts except condemned prisoners and those convicted in terrorism, murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities and those undergoing sentences under the Foreigners Act, 1948.
