Speakers while addressing a discussion forum on "Gender Diversity on Boards in Pakistan" on Thursday stressed the need for building support programmes and provide access to role models to help women in middle and senior-level management.
The forum was organised by ACCA. Head of ACCA Pakistan Arif Masud Mirza, Chief Financial Officer Kohinoor Maple Leaf Group Bushra Naz Malik, Partner, KPMG Taseer Hadi and Kamran Iqbal Yousafi and head of Finance and Control, Nestle Pakistan Ltd, Giuseppe Bonanno took part in the discussion forum that was moderated by head of Education and Policy Development, ACCA Pakistan Dr Afra Sajjad.
Chief Financial Officer, Kohinoor Maple Leaf Group Bushra Naz Malik said that organisations should build support programmes and provide access to role networks and mentors (men and women) would enable the middle and senior-level management to overcome perceived obstacles and to succeed in reaching board positions. Arif Masud Mirza said that women constitute 43 percent of ACCA global membership and ACCA was the first accountancy body to admit women to its membership, in 1909.
While giving his opinion, Kamran Iqbal Yousafi said even though more women have entered Pakistan's paid workforce in the last decade, from the small number of professional, qualified and experienced women directors, it appears that there is a need for greater understanding of the potential businesses case for gender diversity on boards of publicly listed companies.
