The Punjab Irrigation Department has stepped up the effort to strengthen the left marginal embankment of Jinnah Barrage and 15,000 cubic feet of rocks has also been brought by the department in this regard.
While the department has also completed the survey to fill the breach at the right embankment of the same barrage and the task will be completed within 10 to 15 days with the help of the machinery present with the department, said a spokesman of the provincial irrigation department here on Friday.
The spokesman further stated that machinery had been mobilised in this regard. Similarly restoration of Thal canal had also been restored fifty percent and rest of the work would be completed in next two days. The spokesman further said that at present 6,43,000 cusecs of water was passing through Taunsa barrage and it was reducing.
Secretary Irrigation Punjab also inspected the left marginal embankment and some 35,000 cusecs of water was passing through it. Contractor had been mobilised to fill this breach, while consultants would reach the place to check baseline data. It is a very difficult task, which would be completed with the help of mud and rocks, the spokesman added.
The department further informed that severe water pressure still exist on Chachran Bund and irrigation department staff was monitoring it twenty four hours and efforts were in full swing to save this bund. Secretary Canals had directed all the chief engineers to complete survey of damage caused to canal infrastructure and get their estimates verified from consultants. He also directed that quality should be maintained, while carrying out the restoration work of canal infrastructure and third party had been asked to monitor this work.
