Punjab University Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over a special meeting of the varsity's Research Journal Committee in his office committee room, here on Friday. The meeting was held to review status of 31 journals, with regard to their recognition by Higher Education Commission (HEC), and to improve their standard.
The VC impressed upon all the editors to keep their record up-to-date and maintain it per requirements of HEC. The participants pointed out lack of sufficient PU representation in various sub-committees constituted by HEC for recognition of varsity research journals. The meeting noted that there is some hesitation on the part of faculty members for getting their research papers published in the journals not recognised by HEC.
The participants underlined need for holding an HEC meeting quickly and frequently for early recognition of varsity's research journals. On the occasion, Professor Dr Kamran individually discussed problems being faced by the concerned editors and issued directions for speedy resolution of these. Proposals for revising varsity's policy for release of funds to different research journals and faculties were also deliberated upon in the meeting. The meeting was attended by all the concerned deans in addition to the Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry.
