Pakistan Muslim League-Q senior leader and former Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi Saturday advised Sharif brothers to establish a temporary residential camp for flood affectees at Jati Umra, Raiwind. Addressing the lawyers' convention here Saturday, Elahi said Sharif brothers should set up a camp at their Raiwind farm instead of undertaking visit of flood affected areas on state's expenses.
He alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif had spent 100 million on his personal projection after donation of Rs 10 million for flood affectees. Had there been local bodies' institutions, flood affectees could be provided relief in a better way, he added.
He advised the rulers, who joined hands on 18th Constitutional Amendment for their political objectives, to refrain from practising politics on the issue of extending relief to flood affectees. He said rulers are using the much-needed public funds on personal promotion and self-aggrandisement.
The PML-Q leader blamed Punjab government as solely responsible for massive destruction in the province caused by the ongoing floods. He said that the scale of tragic floods could have been far less if Punjab government focused on serving the people by better water management and disaster planning. He said concrete steps are required for the short and long-term relief of the victims of ongoing floods. He also said judiciary should take suo motu notice of police encounters in the province.
