Sindh government has warned the residents of districts Matiari and Dadu, particularly the inhabitants of the 'katcha' areas, as the Super Flood is expected to hit them on August 12, Business Recorder learnt Monday. According to sources the District Executive Officer (DCO) Matiyari Saqib Soomro has been instructed to ensure an evacuation of katcha areas of the Matiyari town, Old and New Hala, Dadu and some parts of Saeedabad.
Besides this, other residents of Matiyari and Dadu districts have also been alerted, as due to expected breaches in the canals at Bhanot, Khanot, Bhago Torho and Sann there was a possibility of an inundation of these densely populated areas, they said.
More than one million cusecs water was expected to reach the Kotri Barrage on August 12, which is likely to devastate Matiyari and its adjoining localities as the Flood Protective (FP) embankments had been declared, what the sources said, 'most dangerous bunds'. The water level at the Dadu-Moro Bridge was constantly increasing and the katcha areas of districts Naushehro Feroz and Benazirabad had been inundated, they said. The floodwater has ruined the seasonal crops on thousands of acre land, causing millions of rupees losses to the farmers, they added.
The floodwater has entered the Kashmore-Kandhkot district after a breach, which occurred in the River Indus, despite the fact the canal was situated about 90 kilometers away from the town. However, the dangerous bunds were only 15 to 20 kilometers away from these districts, they said. Sources also said the poor people had swept away sand, for their own use, from the bunds due to the negligence of irrigation officials.
