National Database and Registration Authority's (Nadra) software engineers have developed a software, which will capture name, father's name, date of birth, address and biometrics information of the flood affected people and locate their lost CNICs, said Tariq Malik, Deputy Chairman of Nadra, here on Monday.
Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs) fitted with state-of-the-art computer and communication equipment are being deployed along with Manpack units to help affected people to get new computerised national identity cards (CNICs), Malik told media. "We are pulling our resources from the areas which were lucky enough to evade flood havoc and deploy these resources in flood affected areas," he said. He announced that free of cost duplicate CNICs would be provided to people affected by devastating flood to speed up the government's efforts for rehabilitation and relief.
In order to simplify the process, the flood affected citizens need not to bring any document, but to spot Nadra Mobile Registration Vans and Manpack units and approach these to apply for CNICs, he said, adding that the Nadra teams will gather biometrics (digital fingerprints and snapshot) of citizens, their father/mother name and address for the identification of CNIC number and accordingly, will trace his CNIC.
He emphasised that this service is only for those citizens hit by devastating floods. He said the data of affected people is secured and there is no chance of misuse, while efforts will be made for speedy delivery of ID cards and distribution of CNIC will be made on the same location where CNIC application would be processed. He said Nadra regional offices are co-ordinating with provincial/local administration of the area and identifying the relief camps. Nadra has planned to continue its services to the affected citizens in relief camps and in areas where situation has now normalised.
He said Nadra offices, centers and installations established in the affected areas have also witnessed a great damage while the impact is being assessed. He said centers of Nadra in Charsadda, Nowshera, Madain, IIlai, Kohistan and Auch were completely destroyed while mobile units in Charsadda, Nowshera and Kohistan were totally damaged.
While instructing the Nadra staff, he said the catastrophe poses a challenge and demands extra efforts and support for the rehabilitation of the affected people. Millions of people have been displaced due to devastating floods particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and parts of Balochistan and Sindh. He said Nadra will make all-out efforts to give them a helping hand.
