More than 1300 people were provided check-up and medicines in the medical camps organised by Pakistan Village Development Programme (PVDP). The PVDP organised these camps in collaboration with JS-Paiman and Department of Health, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The camps were held in union councils Urmar Miana, Wadpaga, Omar Payan, Takhtabad and Tehkal under PVDP's special programme for 'mother and infant health' in district Peshawar.
The patients were provided medical check-up whereas serious patients were referred to hospitals. Project Co-ordinator, PVDP, Ghazala Yasmin said 516 women, 487 children and 142 pregnant women were vaccinated against tetanus in the camps. She said 119 patients including men, women and children were referred to different health facilities of the city.
Health experts of the organisation attributed health problems in the union councils to the old and outdated medical system at basic health units, and poverty and lack of resources. Objective of camps was to raise awareness amongst the people of rural areas regarding the health of child and mother, and initiating steps for decrease in the mortality rate.
Meanwhile, PVDP has called for establishment of a vaccination centre to facilitate people in provision of medical facilities, and appointment of lady health visitor at every union council level. It also called for setting up delivery centres and provision of medicines for women-specific diseases. The PVDP team also heard problems faced by the locals. Project Manager, Zafar Islam, Asfandyar and social mobilizers, Akram Marwat, Anjuman Ara and Faheem Jan were present on the occasion.
