Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that all political parties have to work together to ensure an all out assistance and provide relief to affectees of worst floods in history of the country. Addressing flood affectees at Degree College Layyah on Tuesday, the prime minister said, "We are taking all parties along so that with their co-operation timely rehabilitation of the flood-stricken could be ensured."
Prime Minister assured that the government would utilise all resources to extend help to the flood stricken communities. Gilani also visited a flood relief camp set up at a school, listened to the problems of flood affectees and distributed relief goods. People complained that government officials were not taking care of their needs on which the Prime Minister ordered that all the grievances should be addressed and there should be no cause of complaint.
He said all members of parliament have been directed to visit the disaster struck areas and ensure provision of relief goods in the camps. The prime minister also distributed packed food and cash among the affectees. Talking to reporters on the occasion, he said, the government would continue to extend every possible help to people till their complete rehabilitation.
The premier was accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Syed Saqlain Shah Bukhari while provincial Minister Malik Ahmed Aolakh and PML-Quaid MNA Sardar Bahadur Khan received him at the helipad. Later, the premier had an aerial view of the flood affected areas of Muzaffargarh and Layyah. Earlier, during his visit to relief camps in Muzaffargarh the prime minister told the flood affectees that the government was making a comprehensive policy for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims and to save people from further damages. He said the losses of people would be estimated and heirs of people died in the natural calamity would be compensated, loss of property and homes would also be recompensed and the destroyed infrastructure would be rebuilt.
More funds would be allocated for the development of southern Punjab, he added.
He directed the local administration to ensure the protection of the property and goods left behind by the affectees. Prime Minister Gilani inspected food, medicines and other essential items being provided to the people living in camps. Minister of State for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar informed the prime minister about the situation of flood in the area.
