More than 1.5 million people have been displaced so far as the floodwater has badly affected at least 4,000 villages located on both banks of the River Indus, it is reliably learnt. The Super Flood has entered Sindh after causing massive devastation in Khyber Pakhtukhawa and Punjab. So far, 800 villages of Katcha areas in Sindh have been inundated by floodwater.
Sources said that in district Kashmore-Kandhkot more than 60,000 people had been displaced after the floodwater inundated 88 villages. At least 198 villages were badly affected in district Jacobabad that displaced over 50,000 people. In Shikarpur, 45 villages were submerged while 531 other areas were affected rendering more than 38,000 people homeless. In Sukkur district, the floodwater has inundated more than 119 villages compelling 39,000 people to live under the open sky. More than 388 villages in district Ghotki have submerged displacing 55,000 people.
In Khairpur 371 villages were inundated leaving around 0.2 million people homeless while in district Larkana 411 villages were inundated and more than 180,000 people have been displaced. In Kamber-Shahdadkot 79 villages were badly affected displacing some 29,000 people while in district Dadu a total of 229 villages were badly affected out of which 29 villages in Johi taluka were inundated, displacing more than 25,000 people.
In Naushehro Feroz district, 285 villages were affected by the floodwater and 65,000 people were displaced. In district Benazirabad 63 villages were affected rendering 40,000 homeless. More than 75,000 people have been displaced, as 94 villages in district Jamshoro were affected by the flood. Some 27 villages were affected and 32,000 people displaced in district Tando Mohammad Khan. While in district Thatta the flood affected 364 villages displacing large number of people.
"Yes, more than 1.5 people have so far been displaced by the Super Flood that entered Sindh province a few days back, badly affecting over 4,000 villages both in Katcha and Paka areas situated on both sides of the Indus River," confirmed Relief Commissioner, Sindh, Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha while talking to Business Recorder. "Sindh is the only province, having Katcha areas spread over 2 million acres of land and the present flash flood is of higher intensity as compared to the flood of 1975," he added.
Almost all the Katcha areas of districts Ghotki, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur etc have been inundated by the floodwater which is now entering cities of many districts such as Karampur, Ghouspur, Thul and Khanpur, he said, adding that canal breaches had also caused damages to the properties of people, compelling them to leave their houses.
"Let's hope and pray to God that the floodwater would go straight into the Arabian Sea without causing further loss to lives and properties of the people," the relief commissioner said. Pasha informed that the revenue officials were gathering proper data of the displaced people and the villages submerged by floodwater.
