Federal Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has said that Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) would provide more than 30,000 ration bags containing edibles to be distributed among the flood affectees of Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu.
Minister of State for Economic Affairs said this during her visit to Budh Railway Station where PPAF has set up a medical camp and forwarding office for the supply and distribution of ration bags among the affectees of floods. Hina said that the government was well aware of the plight of the flood affectees and had engaged PPAF to immediately carry out relief activities in Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu Tehsil.
Commending PPAF team led by its Chief Operating Officer Kamran Akbar for well-organised medical camps at a short notice, Hina Khar said that PPAF had been assigned the task of relief activities while keeping in view its in-depth experience in coping with emergency situations.
She said that PPAF would continue relief activities till the subsiding of floodwaters. PPAF has established medical camps in Tibba Karimabad, Sultan Colony, Lucky Chowk and Budh Railway Station while seven mobile medial camps would start working from Monday onwards.
PPAF has set up food supplies camps at Budh Railway Station and Adda Pir Muhammad Musa. Besides the development of destructed infrastructure, Hina Rabbani Khar said that PPAF would soon be launching rehabilitation project of the damaged water supply schemes in affected areas and would also launch livelihood projects in the badly flood hit areas of Kot Addu and Muzaffargarh tehsils. Answering the queries of journalists, Hina Rabbani said that the PC-1 for the bricklining of the Muzaffargarh canal has been prepared by Wapda Engineering Wing.
PPAF has already started work on supplying 10,000 ration bags weighing over 400 tonnes to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to be distributed among the affectees of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah. PPAF is a leading institution of the country carrying out various interventions aimed at poverty alleviation in the country. Set up by the government of Pakistan and supported by the World Bank, USAID, USDA, DFID, German Development Bank KfW and other multination and international donors, PPAF is carrying out various projects related to health, education, infrastructure, micro-credit, etc in 127 districts of the country.
