Keeping in view the destruction and loss of lives caused in flood hit areas, the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has decided to provide free of cost duplicate CNICs to flood victims. "Free of cost duplicate ID cards to flood affected citizens would help speed up the government's efforts for rehabilitation and relief," said Deputy Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik.
He said flood affected citizens don't need to bring any document, they just need to spot Nadra Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs) and Manpack units in their respective areas and approach these to apply for duplicate CNICs. "We will gather biometrics (digital fingerprints and snapshot) of citizens, their father/mother name and address for the identification of CNIC number and accordingly, will trace his CNIC," he said.
Malik disclosed that Nadra's software engineers developed a software, which will capture name, father's name, date of birth, address and biometrics information of the affected people and will locate lost CNIC. He said MRVs fitted with state-of-art computer and communication equipment are being deployed along with manpack units in flood hit areas. "We are pulling our resources from areas, which were lucky to evade flood havoc and deploy these resources in flood affected areas."
To a question he said the data of affected people is secured and there is no chance of misuse, while efforts will be made for speedy delivery of ID Cards. He said the distribution of CNIC would be made on the same location where CNIC application would be processed.
Responding to a question, he said Nadra offices, centres and installations established in the affected areas have also witnessed a great damage, while the impact is being assessed. He said centres of Nadra in Charsadda, Nowshera, Madain, IIlai, Kohsitan and Auch were completely destroyed while mobile units in Charsadda, Nowshera and Kohistan were totally damaged. He, however, said that employees of Nadra in affected areas have successfully done a commendable job and ensured safety of CNICs, computer equipments and data in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtoonnkhwa, Baluchistan, Punjab and other parts of country.
