The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to probe against Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Karim Hashmi, Accountant Muhammad Ismail Fazal, and the names of the two were sent to Interior Ministry to put them on Exit Control List (ECL). The decision in this regard was taken by the Executive Board of the NAB, which met here on Wednesday, with Acting Chairman NAB, Javed Kazi in the chair.
NAB has received complaints that there are allegations of misuse of authority and corrupt practices against Dr Sohail Hashmi and Ismail Fazal, of causing a loss of Rs 21 million to PM&DC. The meeting has sent names of the accused persons to Ministry of Interior for placing them on ECL.
The NAB has also decided to initiate verification on the charges of malpractices in Ministry of Housing and Works as the Authority has received complaints that some officers of the Ministry were indulged in corruption and corrupt practices. The NAB also decided to hold an inquiry in a case of fraud committed by the owner of M/s Century Consulting Services, Lahore, referred to NAB by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
While declining to approve the filing of a reference in a particular case, the Acting Chairman observed not to bring the incomplete cases to the Executive Board meeting. He urged that the officers at HQ should be more prudent in examining the cases and be precise in the preparation of references so that the same could stand the test of trial in accountability courts.
