The first wastewater treatment plant in the provincial metropolis would be established at Mahmood Booti. An agreement in this connection was signed between the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and a France company on Thursday, disclosed a Wasa's spokesman.
Wasa Deputy Managing Director (Operations and Maintenance) Syed Iqtidar Shah and France company's Madam Lezly inked the agreement in the presence of LDA Director-General Omer Rasul, Wasa Managing Director Dr Javed Iqbal, Director (Planning and Evaluation) Syed Zahid Aziz and other senior officers.
Under the agreement, the France company would select the site for installation of wastewater treatment plant at Mahmood Booti, finalise its design, supervise civil works and later its operation.
Wasa Deputy Managing Director (O&M) Syed Iqtidar Shah said that survey for establishing the plant at Mahmood Booti with the assistance of the French government has been completed. After completion, the project would help control environmental pollution and protect aqua life in the River Ravi besides provision of better drainage and sewerage system to Lahorites.
