Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department, Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry has said that rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej may bring eastern, central and southern Punjab, which have so far remained safe, under unprecedented floods. In a statement on Thursday, he said all the eastern rivers and their dams in Pakistan as well as in India are almost full to their capacity.
During next three to four weeks of the monsoon season, heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej is quite probable that may generate flooding in these rivers.
FLOOD SITUATION River Indus at Guddu (9,97,000 cusecs) & Sukkur 11.13.200 cusecs) is in exceptionally high flood. River Indus at Chashma, (7,95,400 cusecs Taunsa, (7,61,600 cusecs), River Kabul at Nowshera (2.07.600 cusaecs) are in very high floods.
River Indus at Kalabagh is in high flood (6,23,900 cusecs), at Tarbela (4,62,00 cusecs) & River Chenab at Trimmu (2,95,000 cusecs) & Panjnad (2,77,000 cusecs) are in medium flood. River Indus at Kotri, River Jhelum at Mangla, Rasul and River Chenab at Marala are in low flood.
RAINFALL RECORDED DURING PAST 24 HRS (UPTO 0800 PST): Ganda Singh Walla 40, Faisalabad 21, Kotli 16, Ravi Syphon 9, Balakot 3, Islamabad (Shamsabad 3, Zeropoint & Airport Trace), Okara & Kakul 2 (each), Sehrkakota & Chakdara 1(each) Joharabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, Lahore (Airport & Jail Road) Trace (each).
