Closing stock market indices
Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Tuesday.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 6,206.4 points, up 95.83 or 1.57 percent.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3,663.13 points, up 65.53 or 1.82 percent.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 6,359.74 points, up 74.08 or 1.18 percent.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The FT IT All Share index closed at 21,174.28 points, up 258.45 or 1.24 percent.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Australian stocks rose 0.8 percent, encouraged by positive comments on the economy from the central bank, but trade was light with investors reluctant to make big bets ahead of the federal election on Saturday. The S&P/ASX 200 index gained 38.4 points to 4,476.9. The index lost 0.5 percent on Monday.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South African government bonds firmed to multi-month highs as investors covered their short-positions after strong demand at a weekly auction while local stocks edged up. The All-share index closed at 27,680.73 points, up 97.64 or 0.35 percent. The All Gold index closed at 2,485.88 points, up 0.65 or 0.03 percent, while the Industrial index closed at 22,864.37 points, up 220.43 or 0.97 percent.
