The German government after contributing Euro 15 million has also made a fervent appeal to its people to donate generously for the millions of flood affected people of Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by the German embassy in Islamabad Markus Loening, the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office made the appeal to help avert humanitarian catastrophe.
The embassy stated that the German aid was reaching out to the affected people quickly "The Federal Government and the aid organisations are ensuring that this help really does get through to those in need." It termed the reports of an increase in donations as encouraging, and was respectable by international standards.
The German government has asked for meeting the most urgent requirements of food, drinking water and tents, as well as medical care. The German government took immediate action to provide aid and to date has provided bilateral aid worth a total of 15 million Euros. The money was being channelled through UN organisations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and German non-governmental organisations. Germany will provide further support indirectly via the European Union and by contributing to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
