Sources said, at present, supply to 90 percent of affected areas has been restored and only those areas are left which are under water. Discos staff is under orders to restore supply to areas immediately where waters have receded. Pepco HQ is monitoring the situation on 24 hours basis.
Two IPPs of 350 MW each viz AES Lalpir and AES Pakgen have been flooded/inundated since the last seven days adding to the power shortage. The waters have receded up to 3-4 feet and hopefully recovery and restoration of the plants will start in a day or two. Preliminary estimates lead to at least 15 days for full rehabilitation. The owners' have already awarded the contract to Descon.
PEPCO has offered Thermal Power Station Muzaffargarh for accommodation of the IPP staff, besides giving personnel and material help for restoration. AES staff has occupied the accommodation.
1650MW Kapco Power Complex is producing only 650-1000MW now because of disruption in fuel supplies/non-availability of gas. Although, floodwaters are lapping the Complex walls from three sides, the Power Plant is safe. Last night, using alternate routes, 2,000 tons of oil reached the Station. Full opening of road and rail link will need 4-10 days. Loss of generation to the system now is at least 500-700MW. Additionally, because of gas cuts, TPS Guddu is generating 120 MW less.
Sources said, the NTDC is extending continuous power supply to barrages in the country and is being ensured by the Discos. Discos staff is also available to the provincial/district authorities/NDMA for provision of supply on as and when required basis. According to sources exact estimates are under preparation by a committee and the final damage assessment report will then be submitted to the federal government.
