Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) has approved the launch of 14 City & Guilds (a UK based internationally accreditation body) certified courses at 24 selected TEVTA Institutes across the province of the Punjab in second shift.
City & Guilds would train 300 teachers of TEVTA Institutes through Sri Lankan master trainer. This six- week training of trainers would not only enhance their professional skills but would also upgrade their pedagogic skills. The City and Guilds programmes would be launched in April 2011. This was decided in 29th Authority meeting held under the Chairmanship of Saeed Ahmad Alvi. The meeting was attended by Ibrahim Qureshi, Hussain Sardar, Ghulam Abbas Sargana and officers of the TEVTA.
According to the details of the meeting, the authority has agreed to offer 3-Year Diploma in Telecommunication System, Construction Industry, Techni-cian Award in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Motor Vehicle Engineering. Also, 2-Year Certificate in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Computer Aided Draughting (Civil), Computer Aided Draughting (Mechanical), Electrical Installation and Metal Machining, One-Year Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, 6-months Certificate in Computer Aided Design and Quantity Surveying. The authority also approved to start these courses at TEVTA institutes located at Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Mandi Baha-ud-Din, Sahiwal, Multan, Sargodha, Sialkot, Mianwali, Gujrat, D.G.Khan, Khanewal, Jhelum, Jauharabad and Gujranwala.
Alvi informed the meeting participants that these courses would facilitate TEVTA graduates to seek admission abroad at higher level programmes of their respective fields. The award of Internationally Accredited Certifications to TEVTA graduates will not only add the desired quality but also greatly enhance their employment opportunity in international job market besides meeting the skilled workforce requirements of local industry.
