The newly formed All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), headed by former President Pervez Musharraf, is all set to launch 'International Fund Raising Campaign' to collect donations for rehabilitation of flood affectees of the country.
Pervez Musharraf, who had already announced Rs 10 million donation for the flood affectees, held talks with former US Secretaries of State Colin Powel and Henry Kissinger and requested them for joining hands to help the flood affectees in this hour of need, official spokesman of Pervez Musharraf and senior leader of APML, Barrister Fawad, said this while talking to Business Recorder here on Saturday.
According to him, 'Pervez Musharraf Flood Relief Foundation' has been established to carry out relief and rehabilitation work for the flood affectess in an organised manner. Musharraf is going to launch a vigorous drive for collection of funds for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.
When asked about formal launch of All Pakistan Muslim League, Fawad said that a soft launch of the party has already been held, while formal launch of the party was earlier scheduled for September25. However, final date in this regard is expected to be finalised next week.
He said that the party's membership drive is in full swing across the country, "and we are getting massive public support". He said that people are comparing the performance of the present setup with the Musharraf regime and looking for Musharraf's return to the country.
Moreover, during a visit to relief camp set up by APML near the State Bank building for collection of funds for flood affectees, it was found that three APML activists, sitting in the camp, were also distributing party's membership forms among the public besides receiving donations for flood victims.
The young APML activist Mubasher Ahmed sitting in the camp told this scribe that the camp was established on August 13 and they have so far collected cash donations of Rs 26,000 and goods worth Rs 50,000 that were deposited in the army relief camp.
About the party's membership drive, Mubasher said that 4,369 persons have so far been formally registered as APML members, while the membership campaign is going on. He said that General Musharraf had already telephonically addressed the party's women and youth wings conventions and asked them to devote their energies for safeguarding the motherland.
He said that Pasdar-e-Pakistan, that is Youth Wing of APML, is striving for helping civil society become an organised and connected force for strengthening democratisation resulting in the overall wellbeing of all citizens alike, regardless of their individual outlooks. "Since our political system tends to serve the dominant interests, Pasdar-e-Pakistan will ensure that the voice of those on the margins of our socio-political system is also heard. Pasdar-e-Pakistan desires to serve the true spirit of real democracy by involving people in problem solving as they are the best judges of their own respective issues," Mubasher said.
