Pakistan’s stay at the number one spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 International (T20I) rankings was short lived, as New Zealand reclaimed top spot after defeating India in the 2nd T20I.

New Zealand made a remarkable comeback in the series after suffering 53 runs defeat in the first faceoff. They crushed India by 40 runs in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) to level the series 1-1.

The Kiwis not only won the match but also regained their top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings. Currently, both Pakistan and New Zealand share the same 124 points each.

However, if Kane Williamson’s side manage to win the decider of the series scheduled to be played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, today (Tuesday), they will again regain their top spot in the ranking. The defeat in the match will drop them to the second spot.

Pakistan became top T20 side after New Zealand lost to India in the opener of the T20I series. The match was also the last game for Indian veteran bowler Ashish Nehra, who bids farewell to his 18-year-long international cricket career.
