A reference of 'professional misconduct' has been filed with Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against two judges of Lahore High Court (LHC), Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali Khan.
The reference was filed by two litigants under article 209 of the constitution alleged that the both judges hearing an appeal against order of a civil judge in a Rs 4,8400,000 suit for recovery in a division bench favoured the opponent party.
The applicants Muhammad Waqas Rafi Bhatti and Tabussam Tanveer of Lahore alleged that the LHC judges surrendered their independence, impartiality and integrity and violated all cannons of justice just because of appearance of Advocate Ahmad Awais on behalf of opponent party.
The applicants further alleged that Ahmad Awais, who is known for selling his relations with superior judiciary, exploited a colossal amount from his client with assurance of providing requisite relief, which he successfully obtained with connivance of the judges. They requested the SJC to initiate proceedings under article 209 of the constitution against the judges who were guilty of 'misconduct' and remove them in the interest of purity and honour of judiciary.
