A special live transmission on state-owned Kuwait television on fund-raising for the flood victims in Pakistan has managed to raise eight million dollars in just two days. According to a message received here on Wednesday, the campaign was organised by the International Islamic Charitable Organisation (IICO) where at least five million dollars were raised only on the second day of the campaign.
The leading contributors were Kuwait Finance House (KFH) and the Joint Kuwait Relief Committee, which donated two million dollars and 2.5 million dollars respectively. The campaign was part of the greater effort to mobilise general public in Kuwait to increase their participation in the fund raising.
The royal family has also announced to present five million dollars donation to victims of the devastating floods that swept several parts of Pakistan. According to an official statement issued here, the donation was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims of the floods. In another development, the Petrochemical Company, EQUATE also announced donation of 100,000 dollars for the affected population.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of Pakistan to Kuwait Iftekhar Aziz has called upon the 150,000 expatriates living in Kuwait to come forward and support the flood relief efforts in Pakistan. He said this during his meetings with various representatives of the community.
