The Managing Director PEF Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani has said that more than 6 hundred thousand students are studying in PEF partner schools in the Southern region of Punjab, which have been affected due to the flood. He also said that according to the initial survey more then 156 PEF partner schools have been affected by floods.
While talking to Business Recorder Wani said that a complete survey will be held after the water recedes so that the complete extend of damages could be ascertained and they will definitely facilitate the flood stricken partner schools with all possible facilities like providing necessary financial as well as technical support to them and students as well.
He added that in response to Punjab Government's appeal to volunteer for the post-flood relief operations in Punjab; PEF officials have offered their services in the flood areas to help the marooned people. He pointed out that PEF has already provided Rs 17.5 lakh worth medicines to flood hit areas and it is committed to continue its benevolent role in the future as well. PEF will lend a helping hand to the schools management so that they could resume their educational activities, Wani added.
Deputy Managing Director Finance PEF Salman Anwar Malik while talking to Business Recorder said that government of Punjab should release Rs 1.1 billion amount of first quarter as early as possible out of the total budget of Rs 4.5 billion so that there will be no hindrance in the educational activities.
He also said that despite limited sources PEF is expanding their programmes such as Education Voucher Scheme Programme and Foundation Assisted Support Programme. While the Officers of the Punjab Education Foundation, who volunteered to the Punjab Government for the flood relief duties have completed their duty-term and resumed their office work.
According to the spokesman, Hameed Ullah Rafi, Zahid Iqbal and Jawad Naseem performed volunteer work in flood hit areas of Muzaffargarh and help in distributing relief goods there. Likewise, two female Officers of the PEF also worked with a relief camp in Lahore.
