Partly Facetious: Scotland Yard hasn't asked for FIA's assistance

"The general public's outrage against spot fixing by our cricket team has not yet abated."
Published September 1, 2010

"The general public's outrage against spot fixing by our cricket team has not yet abated."
"Cricket was the only national level activity that was a source of joy and pride for us and now that too has gone the same route as politics."
"Unfortunate but true."
"So now what?"
"Lesson learned I suppose would be to ensure that punishment fits the crime."
"Scotland Yard is investigating the matter and if the case has sufficient merit it would land in British courts which would then award punishment."
"I grant you these cricketers committed a crime while in the UK and are bound by UK laws however they committed a much more heinous crime against us, the people of this hapless country, and so they must be tried here again upon their return and punished accordingly."
"Double jeopardy and by that I mean you want them to be tried and punished for the same crime twice?"
"Yes I do. In the UK they were charged with defrauding the bookies and here they have committed the crime of maligning the name of the country..."
"Well the country is much maligned in any case so I don't think..."
"The government must..."
"That too!"
"Sorry?"
"The government is much maligned as well."
"So you think we should let it all go?"
"First we shouldn't send Rehman Malik's team to the UK...whatever in the world would they investigate, I mean Scotland Yard has not asked for their assistance..."
"Maybe Malik thinks our FIA investigators would do a better job?"
"An agency that he has no faith in...and I refer you to the decision of the PPP to request the UN to conduct an investigation into the assassination of Benzir Bhutto?"
That's true, so what do you suggest? We take this matter to the UN?"
"Right and ask them to subtract the cost of the investigation from the donated money for the flood victims?"
"Don't be facetious."
"I am not being facetious, I am just very sad."
