Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the government to immediately start construction of Kalabagh Dam to control floods and its havocs in future. KBP President Sardar Zafar Hussein while talking to flood affected growers and KBP office-bearers of district Mianwali, also alleged that only some non-governmental organisations, Alkhidmat Foundation and Jamaat-e-Islami were extending relief to the growers.
He alleged that the government was not extending relief and support to the farmers despite passage of one month. "Federal and provincial governments were only issuing statements," he said. He also said that Mianwali could not have faced such devastation if Kalabagh dam had been constructed.
KBP Chief said that the ruling group should bring back its foreign wealth and extend relief to the flood affected people. He said that an impartial commission comprising representatives from Judiciary should be set up to distribute the donations coming from abroad.
According to a spokesman of the KBP, he also addressed a press conference at Mianwali and said that country needs number of dams, including Kalabagh dam. He also warned that country may face drought like situation if farmers were not provided free of cost seed, fertilisers and electricity. The spokesman further said that KBP office-bearers would also visit flood-affected areas of Bhakkar and Layyah on Wednesday.
