A strong current of floodwater, gushing out from Molchand Surjani (MS) embankment, hit hard Jati, a taluka of District Thatta, after causing devastations in Sujawal City, on Thursday. Thousands of people have stranded in and around Jati town and scrambling for help.
On the other hand, the floodwater on it way to Arabian Sea caused destruction in city areas of Chuhar Jamali. Many people are still moving out from the inundated areas. The people climbed on the rooftop to save their lives. At least 10 people drowned in the powerful current of 60,000 cusecs of water from Sujawal to Jati City. Four children died of gastro-enteritis in Jamphir hills in Thatta while 90 others were suffering from the disease.
People from Jati and Chuhar Jamali are moving to District Badin and other safe places in District Thatta with their belongings and livestock. Some others have camped on Thatta-Badin Highway under the open sky. There are reports that some unknown persons looted the displaced persons on the highway. Despite repeated attempts, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Thatta Manzoor Ahmed Sheikh could not be reached for comments.
