The three-member Need Assessment mission of Mumtaz Bakhtawar Trust has started its working to assess the flood affectees' requirements in Leyyah. The mission would also assess medical needs of the flood-hit people so that a team of doctors and paramedical staff could be sent along with essential medicines.
The mission has already started its journey along with a convoy of five truckloads of eatables, daily-use items and tents handed over the goods to the affectees. Waterborne diseases after the floods is the biggest challenge that needs a collective response and Mumtaz Bakhtawar Trust would be sending a team of doctors, paramedical staff and medicines, said Shahzad Ali, head of the three-member Need Assessment mission including Dr Komal Shahzad in a statement.
A second convoy headed by the trustees of Mumtaz Bkhatawar Trust including Ms Nusrat Malik, Ms Fozia Qasim and Dr Rasmia was also on its way to Rahim Yar Khan. Earlier, addressing the trustees of Mumtaz Bakhtawar Trust, Iftikhar Ali said that the group would continue its efforts till the rehabilitation of all the affected families.
The floods have caused a huge loss to the overall economy that would take years and years to get back on its feet, he said, and added that not only trade and industry but agriculture sector also suffered huge losses. He said the people in rural areas have lost seed, crops that left them in vulnerable condition to face hunger, homelessness and desperation. They urgently need continued and strengthened commitment to the people in this time of crisis.
