Due to flood situation, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Noman Bashir, has instructed all PN units and establishments to celebrate Eid with utmost simplicity. A Pakistan Navy statement on Friday said that all Eid gatherings and celebrations have been cancelled and saved funds would be utilised for relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Navy continued search and rescue missions in Jacobabad, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal and Keti Bandar areas of Sindh. During the prolonged rescue operations, 152,500 people have been rescued till to-date. Food and relief goods of 601,476 kilogrammes have been distributed among the flood-hit people and 25,500 people were given medical treatment by camps and mobile teams at various places.
During the last 24 hours, 540 persons were evacuated to safer locations and 660 patients provided with medical treatment. From Sujawal, 75 persons were evacuated whereas from Jacobabad, 465 stranded persons were evacuated to safer places by PN rescue teams. Medical teams treated 990 individuals for various diseases. The PN relief camps established in Sukkur, Khairpur, Makli and other locations are operating at full capacity.
More than ten thousand displaced persons have been accommodated in these camps and provided with basic amenities. A new relief camp is being established at Benazirabad Goth near Petaro with initial capacity of 100 tents, which would be raised up to 350 tents. Facilities of bathrooms and clean drinking water are also being provided at newly planned camp city, besides food and relief goods.
Distribution of relief goods and food continues in the affected areas. A convoy of four trucks carrying 32,640 kilogrammes of relief goods and ration reached Thatta today. These relief items would be distributed among flood affected people in Khairpur, Sukkur, Keti Bandar, Thatta and other flooded areas. During the next 24 hours, rescue operations will continue in Jacobabad, Dadu and Thatta districts.
