A visiting Iranian delegation led by Interior Minister, Mostafa Najjar, called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House here on Saturday evening. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and specially the situation developed by the recent floods in Pakistan. The delegation informed that the Iranian nation is with Pakistan and its people in the hour of need.
Iran had pledged an assistance of 10 million dollars and out of this aid worth 1.3 million dollars had already been delivered. The delegation which arrived here on Saturday from Islamabad, had an aerial view of the flood affected areas of Thatta District. The 15-member Iranian delegation included: two representatives of Iranian Supreme Leader, Hujjat-ul-Islam Rahimian and Ansarian, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Dr Fathollahi, Head of Iranian Red Crescent Society, Dr Faghih, Head of Iran's Disaster Management Organisation, Bagheri and Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan, Mashallah Shakri.
Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, who was also present on the occasion, told media that the delegation is here on behalf of the Iranian President as well as the Supreme Leader to evaluate as to what is the magnitude of the disaster and what kind of help and assistance can be extended to the Pakistani brothers and sisters.
He further stated that the delegation had made such an assessment. Rehman Malik said that as far as technical things are concerned we sat together to work out as to what are the requirements of Pakistan in the wake of the floods. The requirements at present are tents as well as clean drinking water which are being managed.
Rehman Malik on behalf of the people of Pakistan and the leadership of the country thanked the way the Iranians are extending assistance to Pakistan. The Interior Minister of Iran, Mostafa Najjar, said on the occasion that from the day one of the floods in Pakistan the people of Iran and the Government of Iran were mobilised. He said that an important delegation from Iran has been sent to Pakistan. He said that the Iranian President is keen to visit Pakistan and announce his solidarity with the people of Pakistan.
