The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Dato' Ahmad Anwar Bin Adnan has said that the government of Malaysia is considering reconstruction of some flood-affected villages and damaged infrastructure in Pakistan. Addressing a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Saturday, he said Malaysia has no trust deficit issue with Pakistan, saying it has already handed over a cheque of US $1 million as pledged by the country to Pakistan.
The high commissioner further said that two C-130 planes, loaded with relief goods worth 25,000 sterling pounds, have already been handed over to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) while another consignment of relief goods worth 76000 Sterling Pound would arrive shortly.
Malaysia, he added, is distributing relief goods and financial assistance through the government of Pakistan and there is no deficit problem. Adnan said on the directives of the Malaysian Prime Minister, he has already sent 104 volunteers of which 64 have arrived in Karachi and 40 other are destined Peshawar.
Similarly, he said, four to five tons of relief goods arrived from Malaysia have been distributed amongst the flood affectees. He pointed that Malaysian non-governmental organisation 'Mercy International' has opened two clinics in collaboration with Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) while another group is working in Charsadda and Pabbi. Concluding, the high commissioner said Kuala Lumpur will carry assessment of losses of the catastrophe and both public and private sectors, including small and big corporations, are responding and will provide assistance to Pakistan in the rehabilitation process of the flood-affected people.
