A constitutional petition challenging eligibility of all 188 women parliamentarians sitting in national and all four provincial assemblies on reserved seats has been filed in Supreme Court of Pakistan. Jurist Forum for Human Right filed the petition pleading that all 60 women members of national assembly and 128 of four provincial assemblies were holding their reserved seats against the mandate of constitution and the law.
Petitioner-lawyer Malik Tariq Aziz said the allocation of reserved seats for women were in violation of article 25 and 226 of the constitution bring gender discrimination in the society. He pointed out that Rs 2.26 billion were being spent annually for the perks and privileges of these women parliamentarians while our country was facing a debt of around Rs 9 billion and every citizen of Pakistan owned a average liability of Rs 27,000.
