A total of 4300 tons of food items including 1630 tons of potato, 1560 tons of onion, 386 tons of gram dal, 391 tons of basin and 333 tons of dates have been sold so far at 300 Fair Price Shops in Ramazan Bazaars throughout the province.
A spokesman of the Agriculture Department said here Tuesday that one fair price shop in each Ramazan bazaar has been set up by the Marketing Wing of Agriculture Department Punjab where potato, onion, pulses, dates have been purchased by 2.15 million people so far at wholesale rate.
The sale of food items was 0.214 million kg on last Sunday only. These fair price shops remain open from 09:00 am to sunset and food items are available in abundance in a packing of half, one and two kilograms. This activity to facilitate people is being monitored by provincial ministers, public representatives and government functionaries to extend benefits of this initiative to the general/ poor masses.
The spokesman has further said that Punjab Agriculture Marketing Wing is also keeping an eye to stabilise prices of other fruits and vegetables. The officers of Marketing Wing are visiting grain/ fruits & vegetable markets and prepare rate list of these fruits and vegetables in a transparent manner by analysing stock and auction rate.
