Meteorological department has forecasted wide spread rain/thundershowers at a number of places in Sindh particularly in Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Nawabshah and Tharparkar divisions during the next two days. Rain/thundershowers are also expected.
Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry, Director General, Meteorological department in a special weather alert said on Thursday that Wednesday's monsoon weather system has moved westward during last 24 hours, located in western parts of India (Madhya Pradesh), and has maintained its intensity so far.
This weather system will continue to move further in westerly direction, towards southern parts of Pakistan on Friday. Under the influence of this weather system, monsoon currents are penetrating in eastern parts of the country, he added. DG PMD said a fresh westerly wave is also expected to approach Pakistan coming Sunday that may cause rains in upper parts of the country from Sunday-Tuesday.
Weather alert issued as under:
Sindh: Widespread rain/thundershowers at times heavy is expected at a number of places in Sindh particularly in Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Nawabshah and Tharparkar divisions during next two days. Rain/thundershowers also expected in Karachi during the period.
Punjab: Rain/thundershowers expected at scattered places of Punjab particularly in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur divisions during Sunday and Monday.
South East Punjab: Rain/TS at scattered places during next two to three days.
Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa: Rain/thundershowers expected at scattered places of upper parts of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Malakand, Hazara divisions during Sunday-Monday.
Balochistan: Rain/thundershowers expected at scattered places of Eastern Balochistan Barkhan, Jhalmagsi, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Lasbella and Sibbi Districts during next two days.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir: Rain/thundershowers expected at a number of places in Kashmir during Sunday and Tuesday.
Gilgit-Baltistan: Light rain expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan during Sunday and Tuesday.
Rainfall recorded in (mm) during past 24 hours: Mianwali=24, Badin 27, Karachi and Abbotabad 18(each), Sargodha 13, Parachinar 12, Kotnaina=19, ,Sargodha=09, Muzaffarabad and Garhi Dopatta=05(each), Peshawar(City)=04, Saidu Sharif=03, Chattarkallas=02, Alexandra Bridge, Besham, Dir, Lower Dir & Joharabad=01(each).
