The High Court lawyers and citizens body on Thursday organised a rally under the leadership of President Jamshed Hayat Sheikh, General Secretary, Riaz-ul-Hassan, former president of HCBA, Khalid Ashraf Khan and President of Mutahidda Shehri Mahaz, Tariq Neem-ullah khan.
They burnt the American flag to express their anger and US's unclear policy on this issue. More than 100 people attended the rally. They were carrying placards and shouting slogans. "If they go ahead with the plan it will be the beginning of destruction of America, Which is the country of extremists," they said.
Later they staged a demonstration to condemn a US church's plan to burn copies of the holy Quran to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11 attacks. The rally began from High Court Bar complex. Jamshed Hayat said, "We condemns the announcement of a religious group in the US of its intention to openly burn copies of the Quran. US should take legal action stop the blasphemous move."
Lawyers condemned the planned burning of hundreds of copies of the holy Quran on the anniversary of September 11 attacks in the US. Addressing the rally lawyers, solicitors, barristers termed it a conspiracy planned by Terry Jones and his team at the "Dove World Outreach Centre" where they intend to burn copies of the Holy Quran on September 11, saying that the act would hurt the feelings of over a billion Muslims around the world.
The association urged the planners of the event to read the holy Quran instead of burning it. It said that the book had for centuries inspired and guided people and it gives the true message of tolerance and social welfare. Acknowledging that there could be difference of opinion in the interpretation of the, they said divine message could not be wrong or against humanity.
